The Event
The event was organised by Andy and Christine Acklam and was based at Wyreside Lakes Fishery and campsite near Bay Horse and Scorton, Lancashire.
Around seventeen families came for the weekend with a few more joining in the Saturday ride around the lanes and hills of North Lancashire.

The rides took in the Forest of Bowland Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.

Saturday was a beautiful day with blue skies and a few fluffy white clouds. The ride took us from the campsite down to Glasson and the estuary of the River Lune, then along the fantastic cycle-path through the city of Lancaster up to the Crook o Lune (scene of J.M.W. Turners' painting Crook o' Lune, looking towards Hornby Castle) for a spot of lunch, lazing in the sun and paddling in the river. After lunch the route soon re-emerged onto the lanes and started to climb up, down and up again to Williamson Park and stunning views over Morecambe Bay to the Lake District. The most striking feature of the park is the Ashton Memorial dominating views all around. Returning to the camp site having covered around 25 miles.

Sundays ride was of a different character, a little wilder countryside and quite a lot hillier! These hills did allow views of the distant Welsh mountains and the sheets of rain blowing in across the Fylde. We all squeezed into the caf at Cobble Hey Farm just as the rain started. A cup of tea or two later and the rain had eased and we could swoop down the hills and struggle up a couple of steep little climbs to reach Scorton then onto the final caf and home after a ride of around 16 miles.
