The Area

This year’s National Rally is in the beautiful county of Somerset known for its water meadows, cider and flat countryside ideal for tandeming. The village of Lympsham lies in the heart of the Somerset countryside with Brean Sands, Brean Down and the Bristol Channel to the west, the Mendip Hills and Cheddar Gorge to the east and the Somerset Levels close by to the south-east. From our camp site it is 5 miles to Weston-super-Mare and 5 miles to the small seaside town of Burnham-on-Sea. The Mendip Hills are a short distance away. Dulhorn Park is a quiet family-run farm close to the sea.

A full programme of events has been organised both on and off site.

For children there are local animal farms and the caves at Cheddar and Wookey Hole, while further afield is Longleat House with its grounds and animals and the Fleet Air Arm Museum.

A Coach Trip to Bristol will run on the Wednesday. The opportunity to visit historic Bristol Centre should not be missed so this is a chance to have a great day out. Coach will go direct from Dullhorn Camp 0900 and return from Bristol’s Harbour area 1600.

Bristol Harbour has been transformed into an attractive area to explore on foot with museums, shops, boutiques and restaurants. Harbourside attractions include:

Brunel’s SS Great Britain; the world’s first ocean-going iron ship restored in the dock where she was built and launched in 1843

Harbour cruises
Aquarium

Beyond the Harbour are the Cabot Circus shopping centre and Brunel’s famous Clifton Suspension Bridge.

If you want to see some more of the West Country or South Wales, perhaps before or after the Rally, then Bath, the Wye valley, the Brecon Beacons or the Cotswolds are places to consider.

For the Rally we are planning:

A marquee and bar open most evenings
The annual Velocio event
Short, medium and long rides every day except Wednesday
A Skittles evening at the local pub on Wednesday evening.
Local food and drink tasting, including Somerset Ales and of course Cheddar cheeses
A Rotisserie Chicken Supper on Friday. See below.
A barn dance with a local band and caller; you don’t need to know how to dance to enjoy barn dancing!

Events Requiring Booking

Wednesday will be a Skittles evening at the local pub. Max 50 people. Cost £9 per head incl. a buffet supper. At The Red Cow in Brent Knoll village about 3 miles away. Drinks in the bar next to the skittles alley.

On the final Friday evening there will be a Rotisserie Chicken Supper in the main marquee. Freshly-roasted herb-rubbed chicken pieces, cooked on-site, with a generous portion of delicious home-made coleslaw, rotisserie potato wedges and seasonal salad with a choice of dressings. Cost £7.50 per head.

Rally terms and conditions

Booking confirmation:
Your booking is not confirmed until payment has been received in full which should be before the closing date for bookings.

Members only:
Tandem Club rallies are open only to members of The Tandem Club (UK) and associated overseas Tandem Clubs. Annual membership is £10.00 or €18 per year with membership for the first Joint Member or 'Family' member free. If you'd like to become a member of the Tandem Club go to the Subscription details page.

Cancellation and refunds:
The rally fee will not be refunded after the closing date. Refund of other components will depend on what the Club can recover from the campsite and/or other suppliers. Refund of campsite fees will be governed by the campsite terms and conditions.

Photographs taken at the event may be published on the Tandem Club website and/or the Tandem Club Journal.
