For Sale: Co-Motion Electric Assist Tandem

Co-Motion electric-assist tandem. 5 years old and about 6000 miles of use. Custom designed by Pete Bird of Tandems by Design in Coalport, and  with frame built by major US tandem manufacturer Co-Motion. Original cost £15,000. The tandem was designed to minimize maintenance yet maximize features. the Neodrive Z20 high efficiency motor built into the back wheel together with the Pinion mid-drive gearbox with 18 evenly spaced gears transmits more power to the back wheel than a conventional mid-drive motor. A torque sensor built into the motor responds to the effort applied to the pedals, providing the exact amount of assistance required at all times. Both gears and motor are virtually maintenance free. Transmission is provided by Gates carbon-fibre drive belts which again are virtually maintenance free. The battery (mounted on the rear carrier typically gives around 60 miles of range, while the spare battery, fitted to the front downtube can give you greater range on long trips. The handlebar- mounted control for the motor gives basic status information via the built-in LEDs, while a free smart-phone app gives you all the information you might possibly want on a graphical display.
Hydraulic disc brakes on front and rear wheels give you more than enough stopping power - again virtually maintenance free. The recouperation mode on the motor gives braking assistance on long descents and recharges the battery at the same time.
A Thud-Buster shock absorber on the rear seat post maximises comfort an minimizes complaints from the stoker.
The frame size is 20" front, 15" rear plus about 5" for the Thud-buster.  
The tandem is fitted with two pairs of S&S couplings allowing it to be split easily into two or three parts for ease of transporting. We will supply you with two custom-built cases into which everything can be packed (ideal for flying), and two shoulder bags to carry a partly-disassembled tandem on a train, say. We will also include various tandem-specific tools.
