Sorry... bit late with spotting this. I have an electric car tyre inflator. Plugs into "cigarette lighter" socket. Pitch 57, blue camper van.

Phil Harmer2023-05-30 05:53:04tci2023

I have uploaded a new version of the route 665 NE-S 53k Le Faouet to the club's Rides system which you can get on the Attendees Information page. It avoids a potentially dangerous gravel section. If you have any other routes chnages you would recommend please either post them on the rally news feed or send them to tci2023@tandem-club.org.uk

Phil Harmer2023-05-30 05:55:35tci2023

Tuesday Evening at 7pm in the marquee get your clogs on for the Breton Barn Dance. Bring your own drinks.

Phil Harmer2023-05-30 05:59:15tci2023

Linda Rowe is kindy running a gentle exercise session in the marquee every morning at 08:45. All welcome. Prepare your body for the arduous coffee stops later in the day.

Phil Harmer2023-05-30 06:02:21tci2023

As the Cavalcade is now over, I believe that all the access restrictions around Scaer will be gone from this morning (Tuesday).

Phil Harmer2023-05-30 07:29:45tci2023

Problem with the SE-S, SE-M and SE-L (668/669/670) routes 5km before you return to Scaer. The current GPX tracks go through what has recently become private property. There is more information and a map on the Attendees Information webpage. I will add updated GPX tracks to the Rides system when they become available and let you know.

Friday Supper

If anyone is driving to the supper on Friday night and has a spare seat in their car, would you be willing/able to take Bill as he is unable to cycle at the moment. I would like to cycle to the event if possible. Many thanks Katherine

Phil Harmer2023-05-30 22:52:14tci2023

I have now updated the GPX/TCX tracks for the SE-S, SE-M and SE-L rides in the Rides database. I have also added a list of all the changes to the routes since the start of the rally to the top of the Attendees Information webpage for easy reference.

Phil Harmer2023-05-31 10:21:05tci2023

Has anybody got a spare 26" tyre they could sell to Brian Ellis (NZ)? His tyre has a split.

Gerald and Sue Davison2023-05-31 10:31:44tci2023

We currently have 5 people who want to use a taxi to go to the Friday night dinner. If anyone else wants to do this we can look into a people carrier or a mini bus. Andy at the site will arrange it. We are going to book this evening (Wednesday).

Gerald and Sue Davison2023-05-31 10:33:51tci2023

Sorry... message went too soon! To contact us send a text to +447545242052, indicating a name and number of persons. Or see us when we get back later on pitch 57.

Changes to routes since the start of the rally:

SE-S 668, SE-M 669, SE-L 670

As you return to Scaer on the SE routes (SE-S 668, SE-M 669, SE-L 670), the original GPX tracks take you through what has recently become private property.  5km before Scaer, you need to turn left at Bonizac to go south to the D782, where you turn right (south west) to Scaer. The original route joins the D782 a little further along.

The GPX/TCX files in the Rides system now contain the changes.

Here is the section:

Thank you to Marten Hoffmann for sending me this update.  If you have any updates please send them to both tci2023@tandem-club.org.uk and colinrosy@gmail.com

675 W-M 72k Rosporden

The track at 10.3 km is walkable (400m).  Elliant is full of road works, the new GPX track cuts out the town centre and has been altered between Quimper and Rosporden to avoid a lengthy section of rough track. The Rides system contains the new GPX/TCX track.

NE Routes (665 NE-S, 666 NE-M, 667 SE-L)

Cité des fourmis-Abeilles vivantes appears to be closed.  The track to Sainte-Barbe chapel (café) is tarmac but steep for the last 400m.  NE-M and NE-L using the track leading south from Sainte-Barbe chapel is NOT recommended,

On the NE-S ride, there were originally 2 gravel sections after leaving the Sainte-Barbe chapel before meeting up with the medium and long routes. The second gravel track was potentially dangerous and an updated GPX/TCX track which avoids this has now replaced the original version in the Rides system.

General Rally Information

Welcome Evening

The Welcome Evening will start at 7pm in the marquee on Saturday 27th May.  Please arrive early to collect a drink and your badge.  If you are on-site please bring a glass or beaker.  We have limited seating, so if you wish to sit, please bring a chair.  We will announce information about the rally and do our best to answer any questions that you may have.

Cavelcade in Scaer - Sunday and Monday

This huge carnival (I have been told the the largest in France) is well worth attending on either Sunday or Monday.  Sunday is the better day, with processions at 2pm and 4pm.  Entry on Sunday is 10 euros per adult.  Monday is a little cheaper.  Peter has left some leaflets in the marquee.

Access to the town is restricted on Sunday and Monday, but should be removed by Tuesday morning.

Breton Barn Dance Tuesday Evening at 7pm

Get your clogs on for a Breton Barn Dance at 7pm in the marquee.  Bring your own drinks.

Daily Exercise with Linda Rowe at 08:45 am in the marquee

Gentle exercises to prepare your body for the arduous coffee stops hill climbs in the day ahead.  Every morning at 08:45am

Guided walk around Scaer Wednesday 2pm

Meet at the campsite gate at 2pm for a guided historical walk around the town's land marks. Around 4 - 5 km. An English translator will accompany the local expert.

Farewell Dinner at Restaurant on Friday Night

Friday 2 June will be the farewell dinner for the rally at a restaurant 5 km from Scaer. 3-course buffet meal with wine and soft drinks. Price £30 (children 14 and under £12). Here is the menu for meat eaters. It does not mention options for vegetarians, but the restaurant says the buffet of hors d'oeuvres is suitable and for the main course they offer a vegetable lasagna. For people who want gluten-free they will offer some dishes on the evening - no more details yet - more information at the Saturday night welcome evening.

There will be a mass led ride to the restaurant along the Voie Verte, leaving the campsite entrance at 6pm sharp.  Drinks at the restaurant at 6:30pm onwards (included in the price); the meal starts at 7pm.

Routes and Places of Interest Viewable and Downloadable

Please find a PDF file containing full details of the routes here TCI2023_Routes_and_Information_Draft_6.pdf.  This is the best way of obtaining the printed route information, since it has information for all the routes in one file. The GPX tracks are also available in a ZIP file listed below. You can download the gpx tracks individually from the individual rides, but the file name and title is then prefixed with 'TcRide-' which you may find gets in the way if your GPX device only supports a limited number of characters in file names.

We have not ridden the routes but Colin Gray has carefully researched the area using a range of online sources following some suggestions from two local cycling clubs. He is confident that the local area will offer some very enjoyable riding.

GENERAL Taking food with you is strongly recommended. Lots of bars and shops are no longer open.

We cannot guarantee that every aspect of the route plotting is perfect so suggest you purchase a suitable map or maps of the area. A map will be particularly useful if you do not have a GPS device suitable for navigating. You can then easily plot all of the routes on your map/s using a highlighter pen. Whilst the outline maps in the PDF may be useful the best way to do this is by using the RidewithGPS links within the PDF. You will need to register for a FREE RidewithGPS account.

All the routes can be followed on the Michelin 1:150 000 map 308 Finistere and Morbihan even though every road used is not shown on this map. (Available on Amazon.) This shows the EV7 cycle route and will provide a good backup to information provided here. As an alternative the IGN Top 100 (1:100,000) maps 113, 114 and 123 cover the area in more detail. With any of these maps in towns or large villages you may need additional information. This is probably best achieved by using the GPX track, your mobile phone or asking the locals.

The brief summary of each route in the PDF and the route profile which can be seen from the RideWithGPS links will hopefully help you to select rides that match your interest and level of fitness. Finally if you need any help with any of the above and more importantly if you do find any errors when marking up the maps please feel free to contact Colin directly at colinrosy@googlemail.com.
